My hand made malas are unique for every individual and made to order. No one mala is alike.
Your personalized mala is created by you by visiting the gemstones page and picking out up to three stones and then proceeding to the personalize a mala page! They are all made with the traditional Tibetan Buddhism bead count of 108 with a guru bead, spacers, and tassel to tie it all together.
108 is seen to be a sacred number in the Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Each bead, when passed through your fingers during meditation, energizes the mantra being used. The 108 beads used for your personalized mala range in size from 4mm to 8mm. Here is a great article I found on Wanderlust for some more insight!
My malas are traditionally made by using 100% natural silk made with overhand knotting. This knotting technique not only makes the mala stronger, it also provides the perfect space for Japa Meditation – the meditative repetition of a mantra or a word of your choice.
The Guru Bead is the bead that the tassel attaches directly to. The Guru Bead is said to symbolize the Guru from who the student has received a mantra being used or recited.
The tassel is the cluster of strings that sit at the bottom of the necklace. Each strand of string in the tassel is an extension of the string that binds the necklace together. I hand makes each tassel and uses 100% French cotton.
You can include an energy reading by celebrity tarot card reader Angie Banicki. Based on your name and date of birth she will pull from the tarot deck and the reading will be sent to you with your mala.
You can “bless” or activate your mala by creating a sacred space, for instance- lighting a candle and then holding your mala over sage, incense or juniper smoke, I love using palo santo! While you are doing this, remind yourself of your intention for this mala and let your energy reading sink in. This is now a sacred object for you to be treated with respect and care.
Please do not shower or swim with your mala.
